Experts at Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, one of the world’s largest travel insurance companies, have released their list of the safest countries to visit in 2025. The ranking is based on surveys from travelers who have visited each country, as well as data such as the Global Peace Index and GeoSure Global safety scores. According to the company, this method ensures balanced results without favoring any specific nation.

1. Iceland
Rising from 9th place last year to the top spot, Iceland stands out for its minimal traffic and low crime rate. The country has a single main highway – the 1,300-kilometer Ring Road – that circles the island and connects key regions. Travel experts noted, "It’s hard to get into a traffic accident when there are barely any other vehicles."
While crime is rare, natural hazards such as active volcanoes still pose risks for travelers.

2. Australia
Australia ranked second thanks to its geographic isolation from densely populated regions like Europe and the U.S., making it a destination for those seeking a better quality of life. The country’s low crime rate is especially appreciated by families surveyed.
However, travelers should be aware of dangerous wildlife, including crocodiles, venomous snakes, and invasive species, as well as natural hazards like cyclones and wildfires.

3. Canada
Dropping from first to third place, Canada remains one of the safest countries due to its low crime rates and sparse population—ninth lowest in the world. Experts commented, “It’s difficult to have crime without both a victim and a perpetrator.”
