Zurich - RhineFalls - St. Gallen - Appenzell - Liechtenstein - St. Mortiz - Tirano - Lugano - Andermatt - Zermatt - Montreux - Interlaken – Lucerne

Day 1

Zurich

 

Arrive by public transport or optional private transfer. Time at leisure in Zurich to wander the cosmopolitan and lively streets of old town and many cafes and restaurants along the river and lakeside waterfront. Overnight in Zurich.

Day 2

Zurich - Rhine Falls - St. Gallen / approx: 120 km

Meet your driver and transfer by road with your fellow travellers to the Rhine Falls, Europe's largest waterfalls. Later make way by road to the historic city of St. Gallen in the east where a guided tour of the city and it's UNESCO Abbey Library will commence. Overnight in St. Gallen.

Day 3

St. Gallen - Appenzell - Liechtenstein - St. Moritz / approx: 175 km

 

Experience the famous Appenzell cheese and its namesake charming town. Cross the border into neighbouring Liechtenstein for a glimpse of the famous principality. Later, onwards to the glamorous resort of St. Moritz. A journey that crosses the impressive Julian mountain pass. Overnight in St. Moritz.

Day 4

St. Moritz - Bernina Express - Tirano - Lake Como - Lugano / approx: 185 km

 

Your first scenic rail journey begins on the impressive Bernina Express. Cross the Bernina Pass and admire Lago Bianco. Stop at Alp Grum and marvel at the circular viaduct in Brusio. There will be some time in Tirano to explore the Italian town before setting off again with your group through the lakes of Northern Italy towards Lugano. Overnight in Lugano.

Day 5

Andermatt - Glacier Express - Zermatt / approx: 215 km

 

Be captivated by the ever-changing landscapes of Ticino on your way to Andermatt, passing over the famous winding roads of the Gotthard mountain pass. Some time at leisure in the resort town of Andermatt before boarding the slowest express train in the world to Zermatt and the home of the Matterhorn, on the Glacier Express. Overnight in Zermatt.

Day 6

Zermatt - Gornergrat - Montreux / approx: 135 km

 

Unparalleled views await on an excursion to the Gornergrat. In fewer than 30 minutes be at the top overlooking the village of Zermatt and with a picture-perfect view of the Matterhorn. Later, travel to the French-speaking part of Switzerland to Montreux, known as the 'Swiss Riviera'. Overnight in Montreux.

Day 7

Montreux - GoldenPass Express - Interlaken - Grindelwald / approx: 150 km

 

A spectacular train journey on the GoldenPass Express takes you from the shore's edge of Lake Geneva through scenic mountain landscapes and romantic valleys full of colourful flora. Arrive the 'home of adventure' Interlaken and transfer to the resort town of Grindelwald at the centre of the Bernese Alps. Overnight in Grindelwald

Day 8

Grindelwald - Jungfraujoch - Lucerne / approx: 90 km

 

Travel to the 'Top of Europe' on an excursion that needs no introduction. The iconic Jungfraujoch. Choose to travel by train or modern cable car or a combination of both. Enjoy 360-degree views of the Bernese Alps. Later, transfer to Lucerne at the heart of Central Switzerland. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 9

Lucerne - Zurich / approx: 50 km

 

Your tour concludes today. Transfer by road towards Zurich to either the main station or Zurich Airport. A final farewell to your fellow travellers before either continuing with your holiday or returning home.

  • Accommodations: Accommodations are in 4* hotels of our choosing (part of the STC hotel portfolio). This cannot be changed.
  • Program: The program of this trip has an experiential character. Customers who value a lot of relaxation should consider this when booking. This is a join-in group tour with a maximum capacity of 12 passengers. A driver-guide will transfer you in a luxury Mercedes Benz Sprinter Cabrio (large retractable roof) and all rail journeys will be in 2nd class with the group sitting together.
  • Accessibility: This trip is not recommended for wheelchair users or people with walking difficulties.
  • Altitude: Please note that on this trip you will be at high altitude and therefore in thin air. The places of stay are between about 1400 and 1800 m above sea level and on excursions you will reach over 3000 m above sea level. You should therefore enjoy good health - in case of doubt please ask your family doctor.
  • Excursions: Since there will be some walking during the trip (cobblestones, uneven paths), we ask you to bring suitable sturdy footwear. If you have difficulties walking and/or getting on and off the bus or train, please contact us before you start your trip.
  • Luggage Transport: Luggage transportation is provided with the limit of 1 large suitcase and 1 smaller hand luggage that can be placed under your seat. The driver will assist where possible with your luggage. You must take your own luggage on the Glacier Express from Andermatt to Zermatt.
  • It is not mandatory to tip the driver-guide, however, it is at your entire discretion if you choose to do so.
