Zurich – St. Gallen – Davos – Lugano – Lucerne – Zurich (or in reverse)

 

Day 1

Overnight stay in Zurich

 

Highlights: Grossmünster, Lake Zurich, Uetliberg, Einstein's favourite café, FIFA Museum, shopping on the Bahnhofstrasse, urban diversity

Day 2

Zurich - St.Gallen / approx. 150km

 

Drive from Zurich via Schaffhausen to St. Gallen. Overnight stay in St. Gallen.

 

Highlights: Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen, colourfully painted oriels in St. Gallen, Abbey District and Abbey Library - a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Maestrani Chocolate Factory in Flawil

Day 3

St.Gallen - Davos / approx. 160km

 

Journey from St. Gallen via the Appenzellerland to Davos. Overnight stay in Davos.

 

Highlights: Appenzell village with cheese show dairy, Heidi village in Maienfeld, Alpstein area with Hoher Kasten, Schatzalp in Davos, Monstein brewery - Europe's highest brewery, Visitor center Appenzeller beer

            Day 4

Davos - Lugano / approx. 290km

Drive from Davos through the Engadine and over the Passes Julier and San Bernardino to Lugano. Overnight stay in Lugano.

Highlights: Hike on the Muottas Muragl near Pontresina, train ride on the Bernina line, hikes in the Lower Engadine.

Day 5

Lugano - Lucerne / approx. 181km

Drive from Lugano via Bellinzona over the Tremola to Lucerne. Overnight stay in Lucerne.

Highlights: Castles of Bellinzona, alp road "Tremola", Airolo - portal to the south, Gotthard Pass, Realp

Day 6

Lucerne - Zurich / approx. 150km

Return journey to Zurich.

 

Highlights: Chapel bridge in Lucerne, excursions to Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn, Lake Lucerne
